About Us

Trust Tutoring arose from the experimental work of Lee Havis in the field of Montessori education. In the 1970’s, while engaged in this work of Montessori teaching, he set up an in-home instructional program to help children learn in an optimal manner at home under the guidance of laws of nature.

Based on his further work and discoveries with Montessori’s scientific “new education”, Lee established the International Montessori Trust in 1990 to conduct his tutoring program, now under the name “Trust Tutoring”. Since then, he has served as the program’s executive director to supervise and guide the development and operation of a number of all its various projects and activities.

Originally, Lee used conventional evaluation testing with students in the program. However, when these proved burdensome and ineffective, he created a new standardized testing in 1995 based on the natural, systematic learning of children in basic academic areas. In practice, this innovative “Evaluation of Basic Skills (EBS)” has proven to be very effective and a vital help to successful instruction in each tutoring assignment.

The Trust Tutoring program has been conducted through regional directors with private clients in a number of different states. In Virginia, the program was approved and conducted for poor and under-achieving students in public school districts under the Federal “No Child Left Behind” Act. And, in Maryland the program has developed a long-standing relationship with several local government agencies to provide on-site and in-home instruction for foster care and special needs children in many diverse and challenging situations.

At present, Trust Tutoring conducts its in-home tutoring program primarily in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. The EBS testing materials are sold separately for use by educators, schools, and programs anywhere testing is conducted in the English language.
